WebSocket Chat Architecture
Conversations happen via Socket.io. Each user joins a named room (their conversation ID) on login. Messages persist to MongoDB so conversations survive page refreshes. Read receipts, typing indicators, and online status are all handled via socket events with an in-memory session store for active user tracking.
